Thrifting Around the Northern Neck Part II

I have to share, since I am a lover of frogs, these pics. Aren't these the cutest lil' guys?! They were on our window and our door yesterday. So here we go with what was bought when we were thrifting around the Northern Neck a week ago today...wow that was a fast week!

The sweet lamb square pillow cover was .75, the basket purse was $2, the framed kitchen prayer .50, 3 glass votive holders (to be used in a chandelier that I'm re-purposing) were $3, tray was $1, vintage green glass beaded necklace was $1, the antique glass drawer knob $4, the lace ribbon & trims were $2.50 total, and the antique wooden furniture embellishments were $6.50 for the set of 5(a rare find).
I have a "thing" for bread boxes...this is my newest find and it was $9.50.
I lined it with black & white checkered paper...it's pretty roomy. Most of these clothes were from the $2 a bag and $5 a bag sales (plus my mom and aunt had many things in these bags that aren't pictured). I figure the clothes were from .10-.25 each. Sorry for the wrinkles, I took the pictures while these were drying on the clothesline. The capris and shorts are for my Lilly Pulitzer collection. Yes, I have a collection of Lilly that is mainly either too little or too big, but I just love to look at them. And it's nice to find Lilly for A LOT less than $150 or more! One day I will probably sell these.

The nightgowns & robes are mostly all vintage and will go in "The Porch" when we do a bedroom theme. This vintage baby dress was $4. The Limited pink shorts and the retro market tote are for me...the shorts were in the $2 bag and the tote was $1.

Old housedresses for "The Porch". I love it when you can tell that they were well used...weird, I know.
These pillowcases were $1.50 and match a sheet that I found last year, so I had to get them. Here's a very well used housedress. I can only imagine the chores that were done while wearing this...cooking, cleaning, gardening, laundry, wiping the precious childrens' noses...
The vintage skirt in the middle is for me, the robe and housedress for "The Porch".
The apron was $1
Such a cute peignoir set and vintage prudish robe/nightgown with tiny pink bows in the chest area...it zips, buttons, AND ties...this would be great for the wedding night, wouldn't it?!
After the wonderful day of thrifting, I just had to go to Goodwill in Tappahannock and I found these Ralph Lauren pants for $5,

and this chenille bedspread"ish" jacket for $4, The sweet Christmas p.j.s by Chicken Noodle are for my youngest and were $2.50 and the handmade gingham with lace trim skirt was $4 (for me).
I didn't get pictures of what my mom and aunt bought, but mom did get a marble topped side table for $2 and a chandelier (to re-purpose) for $2, which I'll show pics of later.

So, that's it for now. In part III, I'll show some of the gorgeous homes that we saw as we were thrifting...

'till then, have a great week!

Happy Birthday to Mom & Thrifting Around the Northern Neck Part 1

So first off, I have to tell you something funny...somewhat. After eating crabs with my 7 year old tonight, I walked back in the kitchen to see her chugging the leftover butter/crab bits out of the dish. I think she was trying to out-do her sister, who at the age of 4, chugged the juice/jelly out of a vienna sausage can! Seriously! We obviously aren't watching our cholesterol as well as we should!
Here's the birthday girl...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

For her birthday, my aunt and I went with her thrifting around the Northern Neck. We had read this entry by Beth on Elizabeth Holcombe Words and Whimsies and decided that we are close enough to do this! What a gorgeously thrifty day it was! I will have to show you the pics of the goodies we bought another day (most will be for re-sale at The Porch).

We started our morning crossing the Rappahannock to Warsaw.
The first shop we got to was the St. Stephen's Thrift Shop in Heathsville. We've been here before and have always found treasures. Loved so many things here.Next was my most "favoritist" thrift store that I've found so far and it was one that we didn't even know about until my aunt saw the itty bitty sign halfway between Heathsville and Burgess. It's called Secondhand Rose. We turned off of Northumberland Hwy. onto Hull Neck Rd. and actually thought we were probably wasting our time. Well we weren't! There are actually two thrift stores side by side and they are absolutely adorable. The other store is called Rosebud Cottage. Look at these would 'ya:

I thought I was in heaven, walking into the most adorable old store and having the sweet ladies working there offer us apricot iced tea and a cookie jar full of cookies! We found many sweet things here at Secondhand Rose. I love the ambience of the old general store, the prices are wonderful, and we enjoyed the good old fashioned service!
Rosebud Cottage was nice to visit, but a little pricier...definitely worth a look, though! She had adorable children's clothing for nice prices. From there we went to St. Mary's Episcopal Thrift Shop in Reedville which was having a "fill a bag of clothes for $5 sale"!!! We packed about 25 things into that bag! We've always had good luck here as well.Gotta love it!
On to Wicomico Thrift Shop which was having a "Fill a bag for $2" sale!!! It just gets better! We probably fit about 20 things in the bag there and bought some other cute things. They have very cheap prices and a lot of goodies! They do have limited hours though. We got there about 1:05 and the sweet ladies were nice enough to stay open another 20 mins.

Just a funny sign we saw...I wonder what this name is all about...
We should have known not to visit this store after seeing this sign...thifts?
But the old store was so cute that we had to go in. We did get a few things, but there was mostly clothing...and a whole lot of it. The nice woman running it tried to talk me into buying the clothing (b/c she's trying to stick to just housewares since the clothing doesn't sell) by saying that "the clothes had belonged to rich people". Too cute, but we didn't buy any clothing. It may be worth another look after the clothing is gone and you can actually move around the building.
Here are some of our finds, but I will take better pics later of what I bought...
We just happened to see this...what a great last name!
And Pam, I wouldn't think of ending Part 1 without the picture of the BANANA PUDDIN' (you have to pronounce it like that...and loudly)! My mom and aunt Pam were going bananas trying to find this store where they have bought this puddin' before. They were so excited to find it, that people actually moved our of our way at the counter for us to get some. I'm sure that the regulars that filled the store thought we were nuts. But at least we got some banana puddin' and found our favorite Sweet Leaf brand tea here at the Little River Market near Kilmarnock. (They have great southern fried chicken and burgers too).

This was about a 7 hour trip. I'll continue with part 2 of 3 when I get a chance...thanks for hanging in there to the end!

Slindy's...

Please forgive any misspellings or babbling...I've spent the last two nights volunteering at Girl Scout camp and with 250 or so Girl Scouts challenging each other to screaming matches (not making my 3 day headache any better), my brain is mush and now I think I'm half deaf too.
Anyway, I am so behind on posts, it's not funny! I don't know how those of you that post every day do it, I really don't! I would love to be able to do stay up to date, but for now I'll just keep my list (that's growing longer by the day) handy to pull past happenings from. So....we went on a wonderful camping trip a couple of weeks ago that I will post about (of course) at a later date! Now, I couldn't come back home without having gone to at least one thrift store! So Slindy's, it was. This is a wonderful thrift store in Culpeper,VA that is chocked full of great junk at cheap prices! This is one of those places where you really have to dig and climb, but that only makes it more rewarding when you find something great. I was only in there for about (I say 15 mins., my husband and children that were waiting in the car say 45 mins.) and I didn't even come close to seeing everything. It was quite a challenge to get my finds into the van that had my family and 3 days of camping stuff packed in it!

All of the things outside on the shelves along the wall were .25 each! Didn't have time to look at all of that stuff, though. And I quickly walked past the furniture knowing that I couldn't get any this day.
So I ended up with the very old baby basket on wheels (I love baby baskets) for $8.00, the quilt with 2 shams for $12.00, the pink lace trimmed table runner was .50, and the crocheted daffodil pin that was in this post was .50!

Ok...I've really got to go to bed and rest my head!

One Day in May ♥

Yes, I am waaaaay behind in my blog posts, but am slowly trying to catch up!
Well, my mom and I went on a thrifting field trip around Richmond a couple of months ago...just the two of us. It was an awesome day, but I swear it went by so fast that it felt like we were out for an hour instead of 6. Anyway, we started at the River City Diner where it took a long time to get served, but the food was wonderful and then went to The Family Thrift Center which I LOVED, For the Love of Jesus Thrift, Diversity Thrift, Salvation Army, & I'm sure a Goodwill was in there somewhere. This $3 lamp is for the river to kinda match some others that we have there, the $1 Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is for me b/c I ♥ the OBX AND lighthouses, the acrylic wedding stamps were .50, the sweet MRS pillowcase was .50...I'm guessing the MR got rid of this since there wasn't a pair ;o), the plates are for my plate garden border that I'm working on and were .25-.45... ♥ the calendar plates, the frog pots ( ♥ frogs) were .50 each, and the little metal chair was $2.50, oh and the vase was .50.

I couldn't pass up these 2 dresses for both my daughters...they each were $2.00-eyelet & flamingos, the flamingo capris (potential eBay item b/c they're too big) were $2.98, the dress with the sailboats fishing for martinis was $5 and is so perfect for the river.Don't you just ♥ it when a thrift store item is marked down?!

My girls know to look for the color of the week that's 50% off when we walk into Goodwill and they will yell out "look for GREEN!" or whatever color it is very LOUDLY. This used to make me want to dive under the nearest clothing rack, but now I think it's cute & I feel a little proud.

This lilac rose printed duvet was $3!!! And so perfect for the girls' bed...they ♥ it!

So we found a few things, but the best thing of all was spending time with my mom and doing something we both enjoy!

And can you tell that I'm excited about learning the code for " ♥ "?
